Dear readers, it is not often that your P&P correspondent is gobsmacked (oh, I do like that word), but it happened this morning when I read the news that Carrie Underwood has been chosen to play Maria Von Trapp in an upcoming big-deal concert version of "The Sound of Music," to be broadcast on NBC next year. Can you see country star Carrie Underwood singing “My Favorite Things,” and “Do-Re-Mi”? Because NBC can. Having already cast “American Idol” non-winner Katharine McPhee as Marilyn Monroe (on B’way) in “Smash,” the network has now cast “American Idol” winner Underwood as Maria von Trapp, the aspiring nun, turned governess, turned baroness, in “The Sound of Music.” Happy Thanksgiving! Getting together with family and prepping for the special meal kept celebs busy this week. They got to work in front of and behind their own personal cameras, sharing lots of sweet and sexy photos through social media. Justin Bieber snapped a pic from the road, and Oprah Winfrey got busy in the kitchen. Liza Minnelli will guest star on an episode of TV musical drama "Smash," NBC said on Tuesday. The singer and actress will play herself and sing a number in one episode of the show when it returns in February 2013. The series, starring Debra Messing, Anjelica Huston and Katharine McPhee, dramatizes the backstage life of writers, producers and actors.
