LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Liza Minnelli will guest star on an episode of TV musical drama "Smash," NBC said on Tuesday. The singer and actress will play herself and sing a number in one episode of the show when it returns in February 2013. The series, starring Debra Messing, Anjelica Huston and Katharine McPhee. Can you see country star Carrie Underwood singing “My Favorite Things,” and “Do-Re-Mi”? Because NBC can. Having already cast “American Idol” non-winner Katharine McPhee as Marilyn Monroe (on B’way) in “Smash,” the network has now cast “American Idol” winner Underwood as Maria von Trapp, the aspiring nun, turned governess, turned baroness, in “The Sound of Music.”
